Trump Name Stripped From Panama Hotel In Property Dispute

Police Officers Brawl With Trump Hotel Employees in Panama to Evict Trump Organization

Trump Organization security abandoned the property.

Workers pried President Donald Trump's name from signs outside his family company's luxury hotel in Panama on Monday, as Trump's executives were ousted from their management offices in a business dispute under orders from Panamanian officials.

Police visited the property two other times before Monday, leading the Trump Organization to issue a statement accusing Fintiklis of enlisting "a rogue private security team and others" to launch "a coordinated attack to physically take over the management of the Hotel". Trump Organization security officials, which had engaged in the standoff for almost two weeks, abandoned the property. The owners also tried to get rid of the organization, but it refused to give up its physical control of the Panamanian hotel. The hotel opened in 2011. The Trump Organization did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The dispute between Fintiklis and the Trump staff has not only decimated occupancy rates at the hotel - once considered one of Ivanka's foremost projects - but threatened to become a spiraling controversy that could engulf the White House.

The instance led to a member of the hotel's owner's association being shoved by an unknown security official-an event that was caught on film.

"As long as President Trump refuses to divest from his businesses, his presidency will be followed by the shadow of conflict of interest", Jordan Libowitz, a spokesman for the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, told Business Insider on Monday.

"Today, Panama has showcased stable institutions, rule of law and investor-friendly legal framework", Fintiklis said in a brief statement to the press. "That's a question we shouldn't have to ask, but one everyone needs to be asking".

Trump name chiseled off the Trump International Hotel in Panama after weeks of tensions over control of the property.

The legal battle began last month when Mr Fintiklis said he meant to force the Trump Organization out before its management contract was up, and to rebrand the hotel.

The Trump Organization refused to leave the property, saying Fintiklis had no legal grounds to break its contract.

Last week, a pair of California and NY lawmakers demanded answers about what the president knew, requesting information on Trump's due diligence - or lack thereof - when it came to the Panamanian property, which he had reportedly described as Ivanka's "baby".

In a clip from Univison's David Adams, Fintiklis said the matter is "a purely commercial dispute that just spun out of control - and today this dispute has been settled by the judges and the authorities of this country".

However, it remains unclear exactly what kind of victory Fintiklis had claimed.
