Dimitrov wary of unpredictable Kyrgios

Australian Open officials respond to Nadal's request for 'extreme conditions'

Rafael Nadal booked his quarter-final berth at the Australian Open on Sunday, as he overcame Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4.

A more mature Kyrgios appears to have found composure in his game and won the match in four sets on the back of his lethal serve, after battling through three tough tie breaks. "He's a great player in all aspects and I feel that for a lot of moments he was serving well this afternoon".

The Argentine 24th seed endeared with his astonishingly powerful groundstrokes before Nadal prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, 6-3 in nearly four hours on Rod Laver Arena.

In the opening set things went with serve until the eighth game where Nadal broke to lead 5-3 and served out the set claiming it 6-3.

One break point was enough for Nadal to clinch the third set, after fending off the two opportunities he faced.

The world number one is yet to drop a set in Melbourne and proved too good for Dzumhur on Margaret Court Arena, booking a fourth-round clash with Diego Schwartzman.

The win for the Nadal ensures that he will remain No. 1 after the tournament ends, regardless of the outcome.

Elise Mertens extended her winning streak to nine matches with a 7-6 (5), 7-5 victory over Petra Martic, reaching the quarterfinals in her first appearance in the Australian Open women's main draw.

Wozniacki next plays Carla Suárez Navarro, who came back from a set and 4-1 down to beat No. 32 Anett Kontaveit, 4-6, 6-4, 8-6.

"But I played with determination, and that's what I'm going to need, and I'm going to need to serve well". After losing the first set against Busta, he dug in to take the second before two tiebreak wins were enough to see out the match. "We had a lot of tough rallies so I was really glad how I stayed in there mentally".

"I'd never won a match on this court".

Nadal's experience ultimately told as he booked a last-eight duel with Marin Cilic.

Dimitrov prevailed in 3hrs and 27 minutes and his 7-6 7-6 4-6 7-6 triumph means he is through to a third Melbourne quarter-final and a meeting with unseeded British No 2 Kyle Edmund.

Such was Wozniacki's confidence she even produced a between the legs "tweener" during the first set and although it did not win her the point it summed up her mood.

The Spaniard dug out a 6-3 6-7 (4) 6-3 6-3 victory - but it was a display that eroded any aura of invincibility as he limped into the quarter-finals.

She won't play a seeded opponent until the semi finals.

Of all the big names in action on Sunday, Wozniacki had the most routine outing in Melbourne, as she got past Rybarikova with minimal fuss.

"It doesn't worry me at all, it's not something I wake up and I'm like "look, today I'm going to try to change the perception", Kyrgios said.

"Only a couple points in it, you know".
