Burger King uses Whopper sandwich to teach lesson about net neutrality

Burger King is trying to show customers what accessing the Internet would be like if they don't do what they can to ensure Net Neutrality for all.

Guests who paid a higher price for Whoppers - in essence, paying for a fast food fast lane - got their burgers faster than other customers at one of its Los Angeles stores.

Burger King, which is often rated poorly by popular fast food reviewer TheReportOfTheWeek, then appealed to viewers to sign a petition against the repeal of net neutrality.

FCC chose to repeal net neutrality in December, and because of that internet providers can charge customers and companies for faster access to some websites over others. It's because of the repeal of Whopper Neutrality. When we asked the company why it decided to make this ad, it said, "We believe the internet should be like Burger King restaurants". "A spokeswoman declined to say Wednesday if it would launch or join one later". Naturally, the customers are angry - Burger King claims those in the ad were real guests, though we're skeptical as to what that really means. They even play off the internet speed term of Mbps as meaning "making burgers per second".

When it comes to political stances big companies usually shy away from chiming in but thanks to the Trump Presidency things are changing.

At the conclusion on the video, the customers were told the goal of the video and Burger King directed viewers to Change.org/SavetheNet for more information.

The video ends with a message scrolled across the screen.

In the prank video, customers purchase the Burger King sandwich but are unaware of the different customer service options available. After asking several random strangers on the street what net neutrality was (and not getting very clear or informed responses), the fast food giant takes us into a location converted for a social experiment of sorts. But despite the outcome of the vote, supporters of net neutrality believe the fight to save it is not yet over.
