Brexit: EU chief suggests United Kingdom should rejoin EU using Article 49

"I would not want to push anyone into a corner", he said. "There can be no backsliding", he said.

Michel Barnier, the EU's chief negotiator, has reportedly drawn up guidelines demanding mass migration continues after Brexit, contradicting an agreement struck with the United Kingdom in December.

"They would also have and maintain rights to be joined by family members, such as elderly dependent relatives and children, including family members from outside the European Union".

"It is important that these commitments be in the legal text of the withdrawal agreement, and firmly embedded in the UK's future relationship with the European Union, whatever shape that ultimately takes", he added.

'In fact, talks on the future relationship with the European Union haven't even begun. But Keir Starmer, Brexit spokesman for the main opposition Labour party, said ministers ignored its concerns and the bill was "still not fit for purpose".

"If it wasn't for Europe, our country would not be present on the world stage", Varadkar added.

It will mark Mr Glen's first set of banking meetings since being handed the role as part of Prime Minister Theresa May's reshuffle, and comes at a critical time for the sector.

The system lets EU-level party families nominate top candidates, with the winning party's candidate becoming the president of the European Commission.

Varadkar said that choosing the leading positions in the European Union should be democratised.

In the same interview with the French television channel, Mrs May also said she feels European.

"Let's get people in cafes in Naples and restaurants in Galway talking about the same election choices", he said.

"For new programmes, we should use new money", he said.

Leo Varadkar addressed the assembly in Strasbourg where he denied Ireland was a tax haven for big tech companies, and that Europe is at a decisive point with Brexit negotiations.

The Commission ordered Apple to pay Ireland up to 13 billion euros ($16 billion) in August 2016 and has since taken Dublin to court over its delays in recovering the money.

However, Apple's announcement on Wednesday that it would pay about $38 billion in one-time US tax payments on its overseas cash do not fit either of these criteria.

He said Ireland was a country that is close to Britain in so many ways "even though we sometimes don't like to admit that".

However, he added that closing loopholes should be done on an worldwide basis through the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"When they take their place here they will seek to improve or undo what we've done and make it work for them", she told the Commons.

"I did note that in London there was a rather irritated response to this proposal, but even if the British leave according to article 50 (of the EU's treaties), there is as well an article 49, which allows rejoining".
