Taliban Disguised In Burqas Attack Agriculture College Campus In Peshawar

Pakistani troops take position outside the agriculture institute stormed by militants in Peshawar Pakistan

Pakistani Taliban gunmen disguised in burqas have killed at least 13 people in an attack on a university campus in Peshawar, a local police chief has told Al Jazeera.

Police and army troops summoned to the scene killed all of the attackers at the Agriculture Training Institute in the northwestern city of Peshawar about two hours into the attack, the military's press wing said. The operation is ongoing.

"We were sleeping when we heard gunshots".

Inter-Services Public Relations informed that two soldiers who were injured during the attack have been shifted to Combined Military Hospital for treatment. He said the operation had been completed and the building was being cleared by security officials.

The Taliban took responsibility for the onslaught, saying it had targeted a dormitory housing Pakistan security services officials.

Police said at least three militants opened fire at security guards near the gates of the Agriculture Training Institute, injuring one of them before making their way inside and targeting the student accommodation.

The Pakistani Taliban later released a video showing the attack, recorded with what appeared to be a body-mounted camera.

Salahuddin Mehsud, Inspector General of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, said timely action by police and the Army helped in reducing the number of deaths.

The incident comes amid tight security across Pakistan as it celebrates the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed.

Pakistan's Geo News reported that Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Sohail Khan is leading the operation.

The protests finally ended a few days ago under a military-brokered deal.

The Pakistani Taliban have claimed a series of high-profile attacks in the country in recent years, the deadliest being the Peshawar school massacre that left 151 people dead, including 134 children.
