Skier Lindsey Vonn says she'll represent U.S. at Olympics, not Trump

Lindsey Vonn

Veteran alpine Olympic skier and gold medalist Lindsey Vonn told CNN Thursday that she will be competing in the 2018 Olympic games in Pyeongchang, South Korea for the people of the USA but not President Trump. "And I want to represent our country well and I don't think there are a lot of people now in our government who do that".

Lindsey Vonn won a gold medal in the women's downhill competition in 2010 in Vancouver. "If I were invited to the White House, which I consider a great honor, I would not attend".

Trump has not yet commented on Vonn's criticism, though he has actively rebuked other athletes since he became president.

When the champion Warriors said they would not visit the White House, Trump withdrew the invitation.

One of the biggest stars who will compete for the United States in February's Winter Olympics used her platform to take a shot at President Donald Trump this week.

A number of athletes have been critical of Trump, including National Basketball Association stars LeBron James and Steph Curry.

Meanwhile, Vonn is focusing on the gold at the Olympics and is also attempting to break the record of 86 World Cup victories held by Ingemar Stenmark since 1989. The two-time Olympic medalist recently voiced her unwillingness to compete on behalf of the president while training for the Games in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Last month, Vonn reportedly split from her beau Kenan Smith.

"I got out of surgery and I asked the doctor if he had put a nerve block in my arm because I couldn't move my hand - and he said he hadn't", she told People.
