Michael Flynn said Russian Federation sanctions would be 'ripped up'

Michael Flynn

Gowdy said he was referring the matter to the House Intel Committee, on which Gowdy sits.

Flynn pleaded guilty last week to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the nature of his conversations with former Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak.

The congressman said he had heard about the alleged Flynn texts from an unnamed confidential informant.

"Mike has been putting everything in place for us.This is going to make a lot of very wealthy people", Copson told the whistleblower, according to Cummings' letter.

On Inauguration Day, according to the letter, the whistleblower met with an individual who was working with Flynn to promote a project with Russia, Alex Copson, who told the whistleblower that Flynn would ensure the sanctions would be removed, paving the way for the project to continue.

"During their conversation, Mr. Copson informed the whistleblower that he "just got this text message" from General Flynn saying that the project - "involving a joint partnership between the United States and Russian Federation relating to the energy sector in the Middle East" - was "good to go".

'Our committee has credible allegations that President Trump's National Security Advisor sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners, ' wrote Cummings, Politico reported in a story on the letter.

Mr Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said on Wednesday (Dec 6) that the whistle-blower described how within minutes of Mr Trump being sworn in, Flynn texted a former business colleague saying they were "good to go" with a plan to work with Russian Federation on building Middle East nuclear reactors. The administration has not lifted sanctions on Russian Federation. Mr. Flynn lasted just 24 days as national security adviser before he was forced out amid questions about whether he lied to administration officials about the nature of his phone calls with Mr. Kislyak.

"Our Committee has credible allegations that President Trump's National Security Advisor sought to manipulate the course of global nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners", Cummings wrote.

With the clearance of Mueller's office, Cummings writes that he's now making the whistleblower's story public.

Neither Copson nor an attorney for ACU responded to a request for comment.

Now, Mr Cummings wrote, he and his colleagues have been authorised to to go public with the information.

The whistle-blower, Mr. Cummings said, is willing to meet with Mr. Gowdy if he agrees to protect the person's identity.

Flynn allegedly sent the messages to Alex Copson, managing partner of ACU Strategic Partners, a United States nuclear power consultancy. The whistleblower saw that the time stamp of the message was 12:11 pm, but did not read the text.

The Maryland Democrat said he considered "credible" the allegations that Flynn "sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners". Given the seriousness of the charge and the person making it, if the committee isn't going to issue a subpoena, Robert Mueller nearly certainly will.

Mr Copson couldn't be located for comment.
