Iran nuclear deal: Tehran threatens to 'shred' agreement if USA withdraws support

U.S. President Donald Trump is on the front page following news that he has decertified a nuclear deal between the two countries and others

The Leader also referred to Trump's remarks against the nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers, known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and Europe's support for Iran on this issue. The UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union all endorsed the agreement.

"I donĀ“t want to waste my time on answering the rants and whoppers of the brute USA president", Khamenei said in a speech to students in Tehran, published on his Telegram channel.

Ayatollah Khamenei added that Mr Trump's description of the deal as leading to "more violence, more chaos" was "nonsensical" and the result of a "foul-mouthed president".

He said Iran would stick by its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, which Trump has threatened to "terminate" unless the US Congress tightens sanctions on the country.

The remaining parties to the accord insist Washington can not unilaterally cancel a multinational deal enshrined by a United Nations resolution.

Europe "must refrain from entering into our defense issues", Khamenei said.

Reacting to President Trump's decertification of the nuclear deal and threats to walk away from it, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that "if USA rips up the deal, Iran will tear it into shreds". If Trump ditched the deal, "Iran will shred it".

"They must avoid interfering in our defence programme", Khamenei said.

The American leader called for the deal to be amended to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons or intercontinental ballistic missiles.

It has called upon the Islamic Republic not to "undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons".

If the European side repeats the same demands about Iran's presence in region or its missile program, the Islamic Republic will not accept that, he added.

But Washington has accused Iran of "malign activities" across the Middle East, including a recent missile test.
