Fox Settled $32 Million Harassment Case Against O'Reilly

NYT: O'Reilly Struck $32M Settlement In January Over Harassment Allegations

Last January, a half year after Fox News expelled its executive in the midst of a sexual harassment scandal, the system's top of the line have at the time, Bill O'Reilly, struck a $32 million concurrence with a long-lasting system expert to settle new sexual harassment affirmations, as per two individuals advised on the issue - an exceptionally huge sum for such cases.

Among the allegations were, "repeated harassment, a nonconsensual sexual relationship and the sending of gay pornography and other sexually explicit material to her, according to the people briefed on the matter". "Despite that record", the Times writes, "21st Century Fox began contract negotiations with Mr. O'Reilly, and in February granted him a four-year extension that paid $25 million a year".

21st Century Fox said in a statement on the matter, "When the company renewed Bill O'Reilly's contract in February, it knew that a sexual harassment lawsuit had been threatened against him by Lis Wiehl, but was informed by Mr. O'Reilly that he had settled the matter personally, on financial terms that he and Ms. Wiehl had agreed were confidential and not disclosed to the company".

That's an exorbitant amount of money for a sexual harassment lawsuit when you consider that Fox News CEO Roger Ailes - who had been fired just six months earlier - had paid out $20 million to host Gretchen Carlson.

This is the first time this new O'Reilly agreement has been revealed and it's at least the sixth one made by O'Reilly - or the company - to settle harassment allegations against him. Company officials said they would have renewed O'Reilly's contract whether Kelly had stayed or not. They agreed that all communications between her and O'Reilly would be destroyed, and she signed an affidavit saying she had "no claims against Bill O'Reilly concerning any of those emails or any of the allegations in the draft complaint", according to the Times. O'Reilly denied doing anything improper in an interview with the Times. The producer was sacked by his own company earlier this month after the Times revealed three decades of alleged sexual harassment and assault by Weinstein. The five agreements reportedly amounted to $13 million, and included a 2004 payment by O'Reilly to a former Fox producer named Andrea Mackris for $9 million. "I wish only the best for Fox News Channel".

O'Reilly was sacked in April after settlements with multiple women over accusations of sexual harassment came to light.

Nevertheless, the Murdochs made a decision to re-sign O'Reilly, despite being aware of his history of settlements, including the one with Wiehl only a month before they began contract renewal talks.

Fox News over the weekend revealed the reason network executives ultimately made the decision to dismiss star host Bill O'Reilly in April.
