President Trump received some uncharacteristic praise from Democratic leadership Wednesday after agreeing to a deal to fund Hurricane Harvey aid, a three month debt ceiling increase, and a three month Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded.

"That's what I will be offering, based on the president's decision, to the (House of Representatives) bill".

Trump, after meeting with congressional leaders Wednesday at the White House, told reporters on Air Force One that the deal with Democrats would be "very good".

"The president can speak for himself, but his feeling was that we needed to come together to not create a picture of divisiveness at a time of genuine national crisis, and that was the rationale".

An extension of only three months for the debt ceiling could give Democrats leverage over the majority Republicans.

If Congress does not raise the debt limit, the United States will run out of money to pay its bills.

Republican leaders, according to the source, pushed for an 18-month debt limit hike, then floated six months.

He also accused the Democrats of attempting to "play politics with the debt ceiling".

Schumer and Pelosi had not insisted on combining legislation to pass the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program into law with measures to either raise the debt ceiling or fund the government. The president's ideas on tax reform and health care, to name two of the largest issues looming over Congress, put him squarely on the side of the GOP-not to mention other cleavages between the parties, including abortion, climate change and regulation.

Trump's deal with Democrats came after a tumultuous August, when Trump attacked Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell repeatedly, and several of rank-and-file members.

McConnell said later that he will support the deal agreed to by Trump, but he made very clear following the Republican policy lunch that this was an agreement between Trump and Democratic leaders.

Ivanka Trump's visit to the Oval Office of the White House during a meeting between her father and the Republican leaders "visibly annoyed" the GOPers, an aide says.

Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse was one of them, saying in a tweet that "The Pelosi-Schumer-Trump deal is bad".

A three-month debt-limit deal was the last thing Mnuchin wanted, an administration official said.

The agreement includes bundling relief for Hurricane Harvey with a three-month continuing resolution that would keep the government funded through December 15, in addition to a three-month fix to raise the debt limit to be passed this week. Adding the stopgap funding bill to the Harvey aid package would also immediately free about $7 billion in additional disaster funds. That may help Ryan gain votes of conservative lawmakers when the legislation comes back from the Senate.

Republican Mark Meadows of North Carolina, chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, said Trump "wasn't left with a lot of good options".

Mr Trump's deal with the Democrats means that the Republican-controlled Congress will have to address partisan issues such as healthcare and immigration later in the year while negotiating with Democrats over a debt vote.
