'Narcos' location scout shot dead in Mexico

Netflix

37-year-old Carlos Munoz was a location manager for the drug drama epic Narcos, reportedly seeking out new locations for the show's fourth season which was moving the action from Columbia to Mexico.

The bullet-riddled body of Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, was found in his auto in a rural area in the town of Temascalapa, in Mexico state, one of the country's most violent.

The show 's season 4, is scheduled to be following Mexico's Juarez cartel.

It had been widely rumored that Narcos Season 4 will be set in Mexico, instead of the Colombian milieu that was featured in seasons 1 through 3, but this had not yet been confirmed by Netflix or the showrunners. It's now unclear if Portal's death will affect production or whether the murder will move production back to Columbia.

Portal was reportedly heading out to obtain some production photographs.

Munoz's body was found with gunshot wounds in a vehicle in a rural area of Mexico, which is known for having gang-related drug violence. That works out to a ratio of 12.2 for every 100,000 inhabitants.

The experienced location scout had worked on several high profile films including Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, Fast & Furious and the James Bond film Spectre.

Netflix has issued the following statement: "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family".
