Donald Trump's Controversial Border Wall is Going Up

Federal contractors have started to build prototypes of the wall, which will be funded by the United States, despite Trump's pledges that Mexico would foot the bill.

It remains to be seen, however, when the construction of the wall alongside the U.S. Mexico border is slated to begin.

Four of the wall prototypes will be made of concrete, while the others will use different materials.

Vitiello added that "moving forward with the prototypes enables us to continue to incorporate all the tools necessary to secure our border".

In Alabama last week, President Trump said the new wall will be done in six or seven months. Customs and Border Protection expect the building process to last thirty days.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson Carlos Diaz described the incident as a "misstep". Juan Gomez, a young father from Chiapas, Mexico, was arrested by Border Patrol agents. All of the walls will be between 18 to 30 feet high and 30 feet long, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. On Tuesday, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an urgency ordinance banning items that could be used as weapons from the designated protest zone. "And I think also to be honest with you a see-through wall would look better", Trump said.

The prototypes will be built one beside the other on a plot of ground just yards from the fence dividing Otay Mesa from Tijuana, Mexico. Congress has appropriated funds this year to fix southern border barriers using previously approved designs, but these structures are better described as "fences".

The administration faces several federal lawsuits in San Diego that seek to block the prototypes and plans to replace existing barriers in California. President Trump initially asked Congress for $1.5 billion for the final wall but it is yet uncertain whether that figure will change.
