US Defense Secretary issues stark warning to North Korea

Markets don't just go up but knowing the moment when they will suddenly drop is not so easy

Lewis said that Trump had ordered a Nuclear Posture Review - a paper study - which many other presidents also ordered, including Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush. I just wonder when President Trump will try and claim that he too doesn't need to use a toilet or that his hair is the envy of every man, woman and child on the planet. "It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before" - is the latest act of brinkmanship between the USA and North Korea.

Visclosky said the Department of Defense began its analysis of America's nuclear capabilities in April.

Mattis warned that any action by North Korea would be grossly overmatched by the U.S. and that while the USA is pursuing diplomatic solutions, the combined military power of America and its allies is the most robust on Earth.

The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson meanwhile has moved to defend his president's remarks insisting he chose his words carefully. Marco Rubio, a member of the Senate foreign affairs committee, defended President Donald Trump's stark warning to North Korea in a series of tweets Thursday morning.

North Korea, pursuing missile and nuclear weapons programs in defiance of U.N. Security Council resolutions, accuses the Washington of devising a "preventive war" and has said any plans to execute this would be met with an "all-out war, wiping out all the strongholds of enemies, including the us mainland".

The plan would be put into practice at any moment, once Kim Jong Un made a decision, a Korean People's Army spokesman said. Three U.S. officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the United States had not moved additional assets into the region after North Korea's threats against Guam. "The nuclear arsenal is somewhat smaller than it was 201 days ago because we are in the process of reducing nuclear weapons in compliance with the New START Treaty".

Gorka also seemed to suggest in the BBC interview that any further escalation of threats from North Korea would be considered acts of war.

White House deputy adviser Sebastian Gorka dismissed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's reassurances that "Americans should sleep well at night" in response to escalating tensions between the USA and North Korea.

The tweet came as Trump traded escalating threats with North Korea.
