The FBI has arrested a suspect in the cruise ship death of a 39-year-old Utah woman.

A domestic dispute aboard a cruise ship led to the death of a 39-year-old Utah woman, and the FBI is investigating what happened in US waters off Alaska, the agency said Wednesday.

The ship's passengers were forced to stay on board the ship for several hours while investigations continued, but were eventually allowed ashore in the late afternoon on Wednesday.

The FBI was called Wednesday morning to investigate the death because it occurred outside of state territory, but was still in USA waters, KTUU in Anchorage, Alaska, reported.

TIME magazine reports that the the USA attorney's office will hold a news conference later today with representatives of the FBI and Coast Guard in Anchorage to announce the filing of federal criminal charges against the suspect arested yesterday by the FBI.

According to the Washington Post, the attorney's office said the news conference will be conducted along with agencies that were a part of the investigation, including the FBI and the Coast guard. Passengers were kept aboard the ship for much of the day Wednesday, prompting some grumbling. Princess Cruises has only released a short statement confirming an incident happened that led to the death of a Utah woman.

While passengers waited to leave the ship, some could be seen taking photos of Gastineau Channel and Juneau from the decks and balconies of the vessel.

Before medical workers and security officers responded, a man and others went into the cabin and saw the woman on the floor covered in blood, according to court documents. The ship docked in Juneau, Alaska, on Wednesday morning. "Things are going to happen", he said. Most were wearing white and gray hooded sweat shirts, with the hoods and umbrellas obscuring their faces.

Deaths on board cruise ships have occurred in the past. She said she was able to rebook a whale-watching cruise for Wednesday evening. In December 2014, one crew member and two contractors were killed when a massive fire broke out on Oceania Cruises' ship called Insignia.

Princess Cruises has announced a new special offer which is family friendly, worth looking into if you're planning a cruise with at least three people.

Kamali said guests who were aboard the Emerald Princess and had shore excursions booked for the canceled Tracy Arm Fjord trip will have their shipboard folio credited automatically.
