Charlie Gard Hospice Move Approved: Judge

Charlie Gard to Die in Hospice if Family and Hospital Can't Reach Agreement

The couple has now conceded that Charlie should be moved to a hospice but hope to assemble a team of specialist doctors so they can spend more time with him before his life-support is switched off.

They originally sought to take the child home, before saying he should receive life support treatment in a hospice for several days.

Francis ruled that Charlie be transferred to a hospice and that his ventilation be withdrawn, according to a copy of the order seen by Reuters.

"But Charlie's doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital said this experimental therapy, which not undergone clinical trials, likely would not benefit him - and might even harm him".

But Great Ormond Street Hospital, where Charlie is being treated, said that would not be possible due to the invasive ventilation equipment needed to keep Charlie alive.

Both Pope Francis and President Donald Trump expressed support for the family.

Senior staff at GOSH described their wishes as "not in any way viable" and that Charlie's treatment should end shortly after arriving at the hospice.

The Sun reports Connie Yates, Charlie's mom, began crying and shouted, "What if it was your child?" at the judge before leaving the courtroom. "I hope you are happy with yourself".

Earlier, GOSH said it regretted that its "profound and heartfelt" differences with Charlie's parents had played out in court. Charlie is unable to move his arms or legs or breathe unaided.

On Monday, Gard's parents ended a long-running fight to take their son to the United States for experimental treatment after doctors ruled it would not help him. The rare genetic condition causes progressive muscle weakness and brain damage. Who has a right to decide what is in the best interest of a child, is it the parents, doctors or court's decision to make that choice.

"We are struggling to find any comfort or peace with all this, but one thing that does give us the slightest bit of comfort, is that we truly believe that Charlie may have been too special for this cruel world". "This is the most hard thing that we have been given to do" goal, "we have chose to let go of our child", said a tearful Connie Yates, the mother of the baby, before the High Court of London.
