Uber CEO To Take Leave, Leadership Team To Run Company

This comes after Uber released recommendations made by Eric Holder and Tammy Albarran, who recently oversaw a month's long probe into the company.

Uber CEO, Travis Kalanick has made a decision to stay away from the company's day-to-day operation for some time now. However, he added that he would be available during his absence for the 'most strategic decisions.' He reportedly will be taking a leave of absence, but failed to mention when he'd return.

News outlets including the New York Times later reported that Bonderman had resigned from the board, saying his comment had not reflected what he meant to say.

Kalanick announced his leave on Tuesday shortly after Uber published the results of the investigation into sexual harassment and workplace culture, which was prompted by Fowler's complaints.

The report encourages Uber's board to place a greater emphasis on employee preparation, in the form of both mandatory training programs for executives, human resources staffers and employees responsible for interviewing job candidates.

ELIZABETH AMES: It really details a company that is pretty much out of control.

Uber holds its catered dinner for employees at 8:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. The report called for removing values it said justified "poor behavior", including Let Builders Build, Always Be Hustlin', Meritocracy and Toe-Stepping, and Principled Confrontation. The board will also create an oversight committee to monitor issues such as diversity and an audit committee to oversee spending, and improve the company's gender and racial diversity. "During this interim period, the leadership team, my directs, will be running the company", Kalanick wrote.

"If we are going to work on Uber 2.0, I also need to work on Travis 2.0 to become the leader that this company needs and that you deserve". Uber's board unanimously accepted those suggestions.

The report recommends that Uber makes sure its workforce becomes more diverse from the top down.

Rumours were making rounds about the fate of Kalanick' future in Uber after the company's board received the report from the law firm Covington & Burling on the work culture of Uber. This investigation follows the major setback with the Waymo lawsuit, where the Google company claimed a Uber employee and former engineer at Google stole crucial autonomous development files.

Members of the board had previously professed faith in Kalanick in spite of the growing controversies.

She later detailed that she saw the number of women at the company dwindle while she was there and said that other women she spoke to had experienced similar harassment. In the eight years of its existence, Uber has been facing severe criticism about his work culture in various countries.

In addition, Uber must require that managers immediately report discrimination, harassment or retaliation, and ensure that codes of conduct apply to offsite events and conferences.

Under Kalanick, Uber has disrupted the taxi industry in hundreds of cities and turned the San Francisco-based company into the world's most valuable startup.

That firm checked into 215 complaints, with 57 still under investigation.

A company can be aggressive yet have strong values, said Joseph Holt, a business ethics professor at the University of Notre Dame.
