Climate change rift raises temperature for G7 meet

US official makes brief appearance at G7 environment summit

This month U.S. President Donald Trump said he would withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, drawing condemnation from other world leaders.

The US has refused to sign up to a G7 pledge that calls the Paris climate accord the "irreversible" global tool to address climate change. Be positive, make a personal difference, and show the world that the citizens of the USA are on board, even if our president is not.

The head of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Pruitt, had attended the first few hours of the summit Sunday, but then left to attend a Cabinet meeting in Washington.

EPA head Scott Pruitt made his global debut on Sunday at a climate conference in Bologna, Italy, but left halfway through the first day of the two-day event. Any new USA administration could rejoin within 30 days, Kerry said.

DETROIT-President Trump's decision to withdraw from the 2015 Paris worldwide climate treaty hasn't shaken auto makers' resolve to continue developing cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

"I also asked the United States to clarify its position that it wanted to renegotiate the Paris agreement", McKenna said in a conference call with reporters Monday. How can the well-being of the citizenry be preserved when Trump ignores the words of his own defense secretary, who asserts that climate change poses a danger to our troops by causing instability in the areas of the world where our forces operate?

An outnumbered USA sticks to its guns over climate change.

Had our president chose to continue as a party to the Paris Accord it would have achieved at least four wonderful things: one, spend billions of taxpayer dollars; two, spend additional billions of taxpayer dollars; three, fund a huge worldwide bureaucracy; four, spend even more taxpayer dollars while accomplishing nothing.

China may be playing a more important role in supporting the climate change accord now that the US has bowed out.

"I was very pleased to see the very strong commitment of nearly all countries to advance the Paris agreement", said McKenna at a press conference at the end of the meeting. We have had many expressions of synthetic shock since Trump finally announced that he was abandoning the climate accord last Thursday, after wringing every last drop of drama out of his totally predictable decision.

"A lot of people are very upset about Trump's decision and it has started a new debate", Mr Giacomo Cossu, an organiser of the demonstration, said.

"Separate lengthy chapters on climate change and the role of multilateral development banks" were not endorsed by the U.S., Alden Meyer, who has followed worldwide climate talks for more than two decades for advocacy group the Union of Concerned Scientists, said in a note. Fracking will continue to reduce American emissions during Trump's presidency, just as it did during his predecessor's, and now that we've abandoned the predominant worldwide climate strategy, grassroots alternatives will benefit from more time, money, and attention from greens.

The Paris agreement was signed by 195 nations in December 2015 to outline what the world needs to do to limit the increase in temperature of the planet to less than two degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial times. The letter says that citizens expect public servants to "act on climate change to improve quality of life and create economic growth".
